Tone lives where you find it.

Found Object is a fresh take on the one-knob fuzz pedal: two distinct fuzz circuits with a blend knob to find the exact mix to move you. The fuzzes are internally set – because, let’s be honest, we’re just going to dime the knobs anyway – for a sleek, simple control experience.

Each Found Object is housed in a repurposed container. I pick the ones I think will hold up to serious use; if your housing fails under normal conditions, I’ll gladly rehouse it in a more <ahem> traditional pedal enclosure at no extra charge. I’m also happy to just put your Found Object in a standard aluminum enclosure in the first place if you prefer that. Please contact me to make arrangements.

Pedal dimensions vary and will be indicated in sale listings.

Controls

Blend – set the mix between the Found Object’s two fuzz circuits. The left side is a rich, full-frequency fuzz with plenty of power and low end, while the right side has a pronounced low-frequency roll off and the focused howl of a small amp pushed too far.

Burn (internal trimpot) – sets the drive level for the right-side circuit. I adjust these to taste (usually around 3 o’clock) before sending them out, but you can safely tweak this to find other sounds.

Gain (internal trimpot) – the blend circuit is carefully tuned to balance the levels on each side, and Gain sets the overall output level of the blended signal. I set this for neutral gain recovery but you can tweak it to give more or less of a push if you want.

The blend circuit naturally involves some signal loss, which the output stage “recovers” by amplifying the blended signal 3-4x. I hesitate to call this “unity gain” since the fuzz circuits amplify your signal considerably, but the idea of the default setting is to give you exactly the sound you’d get from either of these circuits alone. The Gain trimpot will let you dial that back to about 85% of full power or push it up to about a 20% boost. I recommend marking the trimpot before you start so you can easily return to the default setting.

Power – Use only 9V center-negative power adapters with your Found Object. Some Found Objects may include a 9V battery clip if the box is large enough for a battery to fit.

Because these enclosures are recycled from other uses, some natural flaws or imperfections should be expected. The pictures on this page are representative of what I have made so far; please check our shop to see what is available at the moment.
